Biography

Dalway’s mother’s family had long been associated with Carrickfergus and the maternal uncle to whose property he succeeded in 1795 was Member for the borough. In 1799 he himself became Member and opposed the Union. His return to the Irish and Imperial Parliaments was probably secured by the Marquess of Donegall. He voted against government on the Irish master of the rolls bill, 19 Mar. 1801, and on Grey’s motion for an inquiry into the state of the nation, 25 Mar., and was listed in opposition by Secretary Abbot. No speech is recorded and he was not re-elected in 1802. He died 17 July 1820, ‘aged 76’.
