Biography
Along with Richard and Thomas Lucas (most likely his brothers) Walter was party to the affray at Midhurst in December 1401 between the burgesses and their lord, Sir John Bohun. Indeed, one of the indictments made subsequently accused Bohun and his men of assaulting him. He is recorded as witnessing a deed at Midhurst in March 1422 on behalf of Thomas Westlond*, and in 1431 he served on a jury there providing evidence about the possessions of Thomas Baggele (brother of Michael*), a convicted lollard. Lucas was one of the eight leading burgesses of Midhurst who in April 1432 received enlarged liberties by an agreement with Sir John Bohun, to whom they were by then apparently reconciled.
