b. c.1724, 1st s. of Anthony Swymmer of Jamaica (of a merchant family from Bristol) by Jane, da. of John Langley, a London merchant; 1st cos. once removed of Rose Fuller and Hans Stanley.  educ. Winchester; Peterhouse, Camb. 7 Nov. 1741, aged 17.  m. 5 Jan. 1748, Arabella, da. of Sir John Astley, 2nd Bt. of Patshull, Staffs., s.p.

According to Matthew Woodford, Hans Stanley’s agent at Southampton, Swymmer was mainly supported by out-burgesses and had therefore to combine with someone standing on a local interest.1 In 1754 he was returned unopposed and was classed by Lord Dupplin as a Tory.  He died 26 Feb. 1760, in Jamaica.
