b. ?1688, 3rd but 2nd surv. s. of Thomas Strangways, M.P., of Melbury, Dorset by Susanna, da. and h. of John Ridout; yr. bro. of Thomas Strangways, educ. L. Inn 1704; Hart Hall, Oxf. 19 Aug. 1706, aged 18. unm.
While at Oxford in 1708, John Strangways accidentally shot and killed a friend with whom he was out shooting.1 Returned on his brother’s interest in 1715 as a Tory for Bridport, he was unseated three months later and died 5 May 1716.
