b. aft. 1665, 2nd s. of Humphrey Mayo of St. Peter’s, Hereford, and Hope under Dinmore by Mary, da. of William Jarrett of Aldington, Worcs. m. Anne Smith, 9s. 4da. suc. bro. Thomas, 1719, to an estate worth £600 a year.1

Offices Held


Mayo, whose family had for several generations been prominent in local politics, owed his return to a revolt by the local gentry against the domination of Lord Chandos and the Foleys.2 Described as the ‘creature’ of Lord Coningsby, to whom he owed his appointment as a j.p.,3 he died 14 Mar. 1723.
