b. c.1658, 2nd s. of George Mackenzie, 1st Earl of Cromartie [S], by Anna, da. of Sir James Sinclair, 1st Bt., of Canisbay and Mey, Caithness. educ. Aberdeen Univ. 1679. m. (1) Mary, sis. of David Kinnear of Kinnear, s.p.; (2) 1701, Anne Campbell, 6s. 2da.; (3) contract 14 Jan. 1726, Elizabeth Edwards of Monmouth, wid. of Alexander Sutherland of Kinminitie, Banff., and bef. that of Charles Graydon, s.p.1 cr. Bt. [S] with precedency of the original patent of 1628 on his fa.’s resignation of the baronetcy 29 Apr. 1704.

M.P. [S] Cromartyshire 1693-1707.


Mackenzie’s father gave him the estate of Cromarty soon after 1685 and resigned the baronetcy to him in 1704. Returned in 1727 as a government supporter2 for Cromartyshire, which he had represented under Anne, he died shortly afterwards, 13 Sept. 1728.
