Biography
The family first became prominent through the favour shown by Henry VII towards this Member’s great-grandfather, following his support at Bosworth. Wyn’s grandfather was a chaplain to Henry VIII, and profited substantially from the dissolution of the religious house at Ysbyty Ifan. Further lands, belonging formerly to the abbey of Strata Marcella in Montgomeryshire, were acquired by Wyn’s father.
Although closely connected with three leading county families, Wyn himself is not known to have taken an active part in the political rivalries between the Salesburys, Nanneys and Owens. His social prominence, however, is clear, not only from the public offices he held in the shire, but from the respect with which he was regarded by the bards of that generation. The precise date of his death is not known, but a reference is made to his ‘late’ decease in November 1589.
