This Member, who on the return is styled ‘one Robert Mason, tanner’, and who, appropriately, served on the committee of a leather bill in the Commons, 18 Feb. 1576, was clearly not the same man as his namesake, who, after sitting thrice for Ludlow, acted as bailiff and returning officer in 1572, and signed at the head of the election indenture. No further references to the tanner have been found, but as there was a by-election at Ludlow before the 1581 session of this Parliament, and Poughmill, the other Member, lived until 1583, it must be inferred that Mason had died by the time the third session began.
