Hart’s mother was related to the earls of Shrewsbury, who knew the Herberts, earls of Pembroke, parliamentary patrons at Old Sarum. The friendship was cemented in a marriage alliance in 1563 between Henry Herbert (later 2nd Earl of Pembroke) and Catherine, daughter of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury. Hart was alive in September 1561 when, as heir apparent, he was associated with his parents in a land transaction, but, in all probability, dead by February 1578 when his father made his will. His father’s inquisition post mortem was taken in August 1580 when the family estates went to Henry’s younger brother George, then aged 46.
