Biography

Lord Doune was returned for the 1st Earl of Ailesbury’s borough of Bedwyn, but died 9 July 1791 at Drumsheugh, his father’s seat in Scotland, without any speech or vote by him being known. There were doubts as to his voting intention on the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland in April 1791, but he was expected to support Pitt’s administration.
