Biography

Roberts’s father was by 1806 the most influential member of the corporation at Bewdley, where the interest of the erstwhile patrons, the Lyttelton family, was in abeyance. Before he died he saw his son returned as Member for the borough. In his first Parliament Roberts was a silent supporter of administration. He took leaves of absence, each of six weeks, on 12 Feb. and 22 Apr., but he is known to have voted in the majorities against Tierney’s censure motion and for the foreign enlistment bill, 18 May and 10 June 1819. He died 28 Nov. 1853.
