Biography

Backwell purchased estates at Billing and Pattishall near Northampton, and in 1755 on the death of Charles Compton, whose heir was a minor, was returned there unopposed. No vote or speech by him is reported. He did not stand again in 1761 when Spencer Compton, now of age, came forward on the Compton interest.

Backwell died 12 Feb. 1765, aged 70.
