Biography
John Offley, described by Lord Hardwicke as ‘a gentleman of a considerable estate’1 was returned for Bedford in 1747 on the Duke of Bedford’s interest, classed as a government supporter. A well-known gamester, he joined White’s in 1749, losing £1,300 in one night at play.2
He died 3 Apr. 1784, aged 66.
