Biography

John Martin, though not a partner, was connected with the family bank in Lombard Street by 1731. He succeeded his younger brother James as senior partner in 1744, retiring in 1761.2 Defeated at Tewkesbury in 1734, he was returned there unopposed as a Whig in 1741, voting with the Administration in all recorded divisions, but did not stand again. He died 7 Mar. 1767.
