Meyricke came from a cadet branch of an Anglesey family which prospered under the Tudors. His grandfather was archdeacon of Bangor under Elizabeth, and it seems to have been his father, the first cousin of Sir Gelly Meyrick†, who acquired Ucheldre. Meyricke tried to avoid commitment during the Civil War. He was nominated to the first commission of array, but omitted six months later, presumably because he had not acted. He was an assessment com
