Biography

Savile owed his seat in Elizabeth’s last Parliament to his uncle, Edward Talbot, whom he mentions in a letter of thanks to ‘the bailiffs, aldermen and the rest of the burgomasters of Morpeth’, addressed to them from Doncaster 21 Oct. Only 18 at the time, Savile had just come down from Oxford, where he had studied under the master of University College, George Abbot, afterwards archbishop of Canterbury. Savile later remembered his old tutor in his will, appointing him an executor, and placing a son in his care. In 1601 Savile lived at Barrowby, but he moved to Yorkshire when his father inherited the Savile estates. He died v.p. in August 1614.
