POOLE (POWLE), Thomas I.

Family and Education
This Member remains unidentified, though he may have belonged to the Pooles of Sapperton, Sir Giles Poole and the Earl of Leicester uniting to secure his and Gabriel Blike’s return in 1571. But he could hardly have been the Thomas Poole mentioned in the family pedigrees, the son of Sir Giles Poole’s brother Mathew, who was married by 1575, for, in his will, Sir Giles bequeathed him a bare 5 marks ‘except he shall be provided of some other living or commodity as much in value or better’.
On 4 Mar. 1581 Mr. Powley or Pooley (either the Cirencester MP or Edmund Poley) was appointed to the committee for the bill for the hospital at Ledbury. The Gabriel Blike already mentioned possessed an estate at Massington, near Ledbury, and perhaps Poole had interests in the area.
