Biography

The municipal records show the payment of Pearman’s stipend as mayor and a few routine matters connected with his mayoralty, but he appeared prominently in local affairs only once. In 1585 concealed chantry lands in Bath were granted by the Crown to William Shareston and John Sachfield. It was claimed that a part of the land in question was not chantry land but belonged to the parishes of St. Mary de Stalles and St. Michael extra muros. Pearman, acting on behalf of the parishes, brought a Chancery action against Shareston and Sachfield, who were both defended at the expense of the city chamber. According to the registers of Bath abbey, Pearman died in April 1604, being survived by his wife Anne, who lived until November 1612.
