Biography

The identification of this 1589 MP is conjectural. Sir George Paulet may have had two sons named George, by different wives, and there were two other namesakes, a son of Lord Thomas Paulet of Melplash, Dorset, and a George Paulet who worked in Jersey, brother of Amias Paulet. Whoever he was, the 1589 Member may be assumed to have owed his return at Bridport to the 3rd Marquess of Winchester, to whom he was servant. The man whose particulars are given above went to Ireland in about 1602, became governor of Derry, was knighted by the lord deputy at Slane, and died in action in 1608, administration of his estate being granted to his widow on 27 Aug.
