Biography

According to D'Ewes a man of this name was appointed to a committee for draining the fens on 1 Dec. 1601. However, the name does not appear on any of the election returns or lists of members of this Parliament, which provide a full complement of MPs. If there was such a Member, therefore, he must have been returned at a by-election for an unknown constituency. He may have been:

CRADOCK, Walter (1584-1657), of Wickhambrook, Suff.

b. 1584, 1st s. of Francis Cradock of Brocton, Staffs. and London by Mirabelle, da. of William Byrde of London. educ. Emmanuel, Camb. 1598; I. Temple 1605. unm.

This Cradock inherited Wickhambrook from his mother. He would not have been impossibly young to have come into Parliament at a by-election in 1601, and once in, the Suffolk connexion would have qualified him for the one committee in question. He died at Wickhambrook on 22 Feb. 1657.2
