Biography

Botham was a draper who acquired some land outside Derby. In 1589 he subscribed £25 to the Armada fund. His will was drawn up on 7 Feb. 1605 and proved in the following May. His heirs were three ‘cousins’. He left a considerable sum for charities in the city—£100 to be lent to five men employed in the clothing trade, £20 for poor relief and 20s. to ministers serving churches there. He asked to be buried in All Saints, Derby.
