Biography

William Dalmyngton was probably a grandson of Thomas Dalmyngton of Hythe who in 1487 left his fishing craft to whichever of his three sons, John, William (then under 18) and Thomas, was prepared to use it; this elder William Dalmyngton was a witness in 1535 to the will of Richard Knight, father of John Knight II, Dalmyngton’s fellow-Member in the Parliament of March 1553. Dalmyngton frequently attended the Brotherhood of the Cinque Ports as one of the delegates from Hythe, appearing for the last time in July 1587: two years later he was mentioned as a jurat of Hythe in the Privy Council’s examination into charges brought against the captain of Sandgate castle. His son and namesake had died in 1576.4
