Biography

Upton came from a family which had owned land and property in Old Sarum since the 13th century. In October 1380 he witnessed a deed relating to land there and in neighbouring Stratford sub Castle. John Avery I*, another resident, was his surety for attendance at the Parliament of October 1382, and Upton himself performed a like service for William Haulegh, when the latter was elected for Old Sarum to the second Parliament of 1383.
