Biography

Probably the son or nephew of Robert Overdo I, this MP had other influential kinsmen in Appleby during the early 15th century. One, named Richard Overdo, who was bailiff there in 1421, frequently attested the parliamentary returns for the borough, along with John Overdo, another member of the family. Robert II was himself present at the elections to the Parliaments of 1414 (Nov.), 1415, 1416 (Mar.), 1419, 1420 and 1421 (May and Dec.), although the Robert Overdo who was named as an elector in 1432 may well have been a younger relative.
