Biography

Derby witnessed deeds in Reading in 1407 and 1409, giving his trade as ‘dyer’; but he is almost certainly to be identified with William Derby ‘glover’ who contributed towards the repair of St. Laurence’s church in 1410. He was dead by November 1437, when his widow, Joan, rented a chamber in St. John’s hospital, Reading, for her own use.
