Biography

Roger may have been the son of William Clerk, a baker and burgess of Arundel, recorded on the subsidy returns of 1332. In the borough court held in October 1387 it was alleged that Roger had broken into the property of Richard Martin and assaulted him. Martin claimed damages of 40s. This was just a few months before Clerk’s only known return to Parliament.
