History of Parliament Research
I joined the History of Parliament in January 2018 as the Public Engagement Officer. I work closely with our Assistant Director, Dr Emma Peplow on all of our major public facing platforms, events and outreach programmes – including social media and blogging, historyofparliamentonline.org, schools initiatives, seminars, conferences and the Oral History Project. Research and Publications
My research interests span far and wide. I have particular interests in Oral History as an active member of the Oral History Society’s LGBT Oral History Group, Public History and the communication of diverse histories to wide audiences.
I have recently graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA in History and Spanish, where I completed a dissertation about the lives of gay men in London in the period before the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK with the Sexual Offences Act 1967. As a former Sergeant in the Royal Air Force, I am also an advocate for military mental health awareness and I am currently conducting a project with artist, Mark Neville entitled Battle Against Stigma. We are using art and oral testimonies to explore ways of improving the provision for the mental health care for UK combat veterans, as well as to inform academic enquiry into combat stress.
